A California man was shot by his parole officer on Christmas Eve in Fresno, according to authorities. The shooting occurred during a routine home visit when a “physical altercation” broke out between 26-year-old Jeremy Sanchez and the officer.

Sanchez died at the scene despite the officer’s attempts to perform lifesaving measures.

The California Justice Department said it is investigating the incident as required by state law regarding officer-involved shootings.
