Canadian travel to US continues steep decline, data shows

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, in April, 13,000 fewer Canadians crossed the U.S. Border than in March, a decline of 70,000 people, or 38%, year over Year. Store owner John Slipp reported a 32% drop in traffic from January to May, stating the situation is “not sustainable” for businesses reliant on cross-border tourism.

Maine Gov. Janet Mills announced that her government is installing signs to welcome Canadian tourists, and she plans to meet with Canadian premiers to discuss regional tourism strategies.

In response to declining Canadian tourism, California is offering a 25% discount at 1,000 hotels for Canadian passport holders, amid concerns about border scrutiny and immigration policies affecting travel.
