China admits role in cyberattacks on US infrastructure over Taiwan support: WSJ

Chinese officials admitted to U.S. representatives that Beijing was behind cyberattacks on U.S. infrastructure, citing Washington’s support for Taiwan, according to The Wall Street Journal. Wang Lei, a cyber official with China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, linked the attacks to tensions surrounding Taiwan, which Beijing views as its own territory.

The U.S. perceives cyberattacks targeting its critical infrastructure as potential acts of war. It has prompted warnings from U.S. officials to China.

The U.S. State Department condemned the cyberattacks as serious threats to national security. It asserted that actions would be taken in response.
