China has vowed to take “resolute countermeasures” against a recent U.S. arms sale to Taiwan, as stated by its foreign ministry. The U.S. decision is seen as an infringement of China’s sovereignty and harmful to bilateral relations.
The foreign ministry asserted that the sale undermines China’s sovereignty, security interests and international law, sending a “gravely wrong message” to separatist forces. The sale includes an estimated $385 million in F-16 parts and fighter jet support to the island nation, with President Lai Ching-te traveling to Hawaii and Guam in the coming days.
