Texas A&M University President Mark A. Welsh III removed the dean and department head overseeing a children’s literature course that the university says included material inconsistent with course descriptions. The announcement follows a viral video of a student who filmed herself claiming that the classroom content is illegal and refusing to participate in the class.

In the video, the student also insinuates that the university will lose funding, and claims that the content does not adhere to “[Trump’s] laws.” The professor responds by affirming that the content is both legal and ethical, and tells the student that she is under a “misconception.”

The student continues arguing and says that there are only two genders, citing President Trump.

The professor informs the student that the student has the right to leave the classroom if they’re feeling uncomfortable, and that they have the right to speak with department heads if they believe any laws have been violated.

Texas State Rep. Brian Harrison (R) reposted the video on X and said he would be “referring @TAMU to the Trump Administration for investigation,” claiming without evidence that the class amounts to “TRANSGENDER INDOCTRINATION.”
