Colorado Democrat draws controversial comparison between transgender bill opponents and KKK

A Colorado lawmaker compared parental rights groups opposing a transgender bill to the KKK during a committee hearing. Democratic state Rep. Yara Zokaie stated there is no room for different opinions on basic rights.

The Kelly Loving Act passed the Colorado Assembly’s Judiciary Committee with a 7-4 vote after a lengthy hearing.

Zokaie said that the bill doesn’t need to be discussed by “hate groups” before she made the remark regarding the KKK.

“We don’t ask someone passing civil rights legislation to go ask the KKK their opinion,” she said.

Dr. Travis Morrell called the bill “government overreach dressed up as progress,” criticizing Democrats for comparing concerned parents to hate groups during the legislative process.
