Kirill Basin, a Democrat running for the U.S. House of Representatives, was charged with two felony counts of terroristic threatening following an incident that happened Saturday at a Maui beach.
Basin, 40, is a candidate in Hawaii’s second congressional district. The Maui Police Department said Basin pulled out a knife and threatened people after a 61-year-old man asked him to turn down his music. Basin then allegedly tossed the knife into the ocean.

Basin’s lawyer, Brandon Segal, said his client has a “presumption of innocence” and “these are just allegations.”
“There’s no evidence in any of these videos that have been circulated tremendously that he ever had a knife in his possession. He never had a firearm in his possession,” Segal said.
