Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old man accused of the shooting killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, has been appointed a public defender, attorney Kathryn Nester, after a Utah judge determined he could not afford private legal representation. The Utah County Commission stated that the decision fulfills its constitutional duty to ensure a qualified legal defense for anyone facing serious criminal charges.

Robinson is accused of aggravated murder and multiple related offenses tied to the Wednesday, Sept. 10, assassination on the Utah Valley University campus. He is currently being held in a special housing unit at the Utah County Jail. Robinson has not yet entered a plea.
