A panel of three federal judges unanimously upheld protections for 600,000 Venezuelans living in the United States under Temporary Protected Status (TPS). The ruling came after the Trump administration moved in May to end the program, which currently covers over 1 million people from multiple countries.

The court found that the administration does not have the authority to terminate the Biden-era extension of TPS. The program allows eligible individuals to live and work legally in the U.S. for up to 18 months if their home countries are affected by natural disasters, armed conflict, or other extraordinary circumstances.

Roughly 350,000 Venezuelans whose TPS status expired in April are directly affected by the decision. The ruling maintains their ability to remain in the U.S. as long as the program remains in place.
