A deadly mass shooting at Willie’s Bar and Grill on St. Helena Island in South Carolina left four people dead and 16 others injured. The incident happened during a gathering of roughly 700 people after a dispute between a small group escalated into a melee and gunshots at random.

So far, no arrests have been made. Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner said investigators are combing through evidence collected at the scene, including DNA samples, recovered firearms and video footage. However, Tanner said a lack of witness cooperation is hampering the investigation.

Many who were present may be reluctant to speak with law enforcement due to fear of retaliation, he said. The sheriff urged anyone with information to come forward, calling the community’s help critical to making progress in the case.
