Doctor moves practice to Oregon after Texas AG sues over transgender care

In 2023, Texas passed a law prohibiting doctors from prescribing hormones or medications to minors intended to help them affirm or transition their gender, according to The Texas Tribune. In 2024, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued Dr. May Lau, a physician specializing in adolescent medicine, for allegedly prescribing testosterone to several patients after that law had been passed.

Dr. Lau called the charges political and said they were driven by ideology over science. She has rejected Paxton’s accusations of wrongdoing.

Now, however, she’s chosen to surrender her license to practice medicine in Texas, and says she plans to relocate her practice to Oregon instead.

Paxton hailed Dr. Lau’s decision to surrender her license, calling it “a major victory for our state,” according to the Tribune.
