DOGE is collecting federal data to remove immigrants from housing, jobs: WP

Career officials at the Internal Revenue Service refused to share sensitive taxpayer data with immigration agencies, citing legal concerns. IRS officials claimed the Department of Government Efficiency is using the data to find immigrants illegally in the U.S.

Multiple career officials at the IRS stated that sharing such data would be illegal.

Immigrants living illegally in the U.S. contributed over $96 billion in taxes in 2022, according to the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy.

A White House spokesperson suggested that potential losses in revenue were “a worthy tradeoff” for the new policy.
