Los Angeles Times owner Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong implemented changes to opinion coverage to include different viewpoints, stating, “People need to respect different opinions.” Three staff members, including former editorials editor Mariel Garza, resigned in protest against the new direction of the Times.
Media columnist Margaret Sullivan argued that Soon-Shiong’s efforts to promote viewpoint diversity disguise a push toward conservative narratives. Soon-Shiong expressed his commitment to reflecting different opinions, stating it’s important that all voices be heard.
