A federal judge ordered Elon Musk’s team at the Department of Government Efficiency to not access student financial aid data after a lawsuit from University of California students. The decision, approved by U.S. District Judge Randolph D. Moss, temporarily halts DOGE’s access until Monday, Feb. 17, for further arguments.

The lawsuit claims that the Education Department is violating the Privacy Act of 1974 by sharing personal information with third parties.

Concerns grew over DOGE’s actions after reports of cuts totaling $900 million from the Institute of Education Sciences.
