On Aug. 10, 2019, officials found Jeffrey Epstein deceased in his Manhattan jail cell. He appeared to have taken his own life while awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking.

The FBI began investigating Epstein in 2005 for alleged sex trafficking of over 30 minors. He pled guilty to two felonies in 2008, avoiding federal charges.

Epstein’s longtime Paris butler, Valdson Vieira Cotrin, denied witnessing any abuse. He worked for Epstein for 18 years and recently rejected the suicide ruling.

A DOJ-FBI review ruled out murder, but Epstein’s brother and Cotrin cited forensic inconsistencies. They called to release full investigation files.

Cotrin described Epstein’s social ties, noted Epstein’s 2004 fallout with Trump and claimed Epstein was offered a Trump administration job in 2016. However, there is no evidence to support this.
