Three U.S. federal worker unions are suing the Trump administration over new political loyalty tests they say were inserted into federal job application processes. Traditionally, federal civil service positions are considered non-political, and candidates are not subject to political loyalty tests.
The lawsuit, filed Nov. 6, accuses the administration of “creating an illegal and unconstitutional system of political patronage,” according to The Daily Beast.

Among the questions added to federal job applications were ones asking candidates to identify their favorite Trump executive order and explain how they personally would help execute that order, the lawsuit shows.
Non-political positions where questions like these were introduced included jobs like dental hygienist and beverage manager, the Beast reported.
“This isn’t just illegal, it also harms our members and all Americans by depriving them of opportunities to serve their country and by undermining a skilled, nonpartisan workforce,” said AFGE National President Everett Kelley.
