Sources described Patel to MS NOW as being in "panic mode" to save his job and find "leakers" after multiple news articles came out questioning his leadership.

The media outlet wrote that Patel also "walled himself off" from senior FBI leaders this week and avoided meetings with "key operational leaders of the bureau."

FBI spokesman Ben Williamson declined to comment to MS Now on the polygraphs specifically. He did push back on the other allegations, saying that Patel has met with operational leaders.

“I’ve been in the usual operational leader meetings with him every day this week … it’s false,” Williamson said.

The man has been critical of President Donald Trump and his administration. Following the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, he posted on social media criticizing the agency. Shortly after, DHS attempted to obtain the man’s information by issuing an administrative subpoena to Google.

DHS argues that its actions did not exceed its authority under Section 1509 of the Tariff Act of 1930. This gives Customs and Border Patrol the jurisdiction to receive records in relation to the importation or transport of goods within the country.

But the Canadian, who is represented by the American Civil Liberties Union, says he has not been to the U.S. in more than 10 years.

The president floated the idea to Sean Hannity back in March. During Fetterman's interview, Hannity told him of Trump's offer to get him to change political affiliations. But Fetterman turned the offer down. In a recent interview with Politico, Fetterman reinforced this stance, telling the news outlet, "I'm a Democrat, and I'm staying one."

Fetterman is known for his bipartisan relationships and views. He has expressed support for Trump's actions in Iran, fosters close relationships with Republicans like Dave McCormick, but still votes with his Democrat colleagues roughly 91% of the time.

This comes as Republicans prepare for the 2026 midterms with the goal of retaining control of the Senate. The GOP currently holds a 53-47 majority.

About 61% of Americans say the conflict was a mistake, according to a Washington Post–ABC News–Ipsos survey of 2,650 U.S. adults conducted in late April.

The poll finds disapproval matches public sentiment during the Iraq and Vietnam wars.

Respondents say the war won’t stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons, with 65% holding that view, 61% say it has increased the threat of terrorism against Americans, and 85% oppose bringing back the U.S. military draft.

Since the war began, 13 U.S. service members and about 1,701 Iranian civilians have been killed.

Washington is debating whether the Trump administration must seek out congressional approval to continue military actions in Iran, as required by the War Powers Act after a conflict lasts 60 days.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth recently told senators on the Senate Armed Services Committee that the Trump administration believes a ceasefire pauses the War Powers clock, meaning the 60-day deadline hasn't passed.

Trump's comments came after DeSantis introduced a newly gerrymandered congressional map in the Florida House of Representatives, hoping to give Republican candidates an advantage in four races this November. The governor recently signed that map into law.

DeSantis's fixed-term as governor will end in January 2027.

A recent ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll shows that Americans oppose tearing down the East Wing of the White House to build the room by a 2-to-1 margin. More than half of those surveyed, 56%, said they opposed the action, 28% supported it and 15% said they were unsure.

Strong opposition (47%) outweighs strong support (16%) by about 3-to-1, per the poll, which ABC said was conducted in the field before and after the Saturday dinner. While there was no significant difference in attitudes overall, ABC reported Republican support for the ballroom went up by 10%, to 72%.

The White House correspondents’ dinner has been held at the Washington Hilton hotel for decades and is put on by the independent White House Correspondents’ Association, which represents journalists.

In the video, the woman says when she first heard about the attack, she thought "it was probably fake." Her second thought, she said, was "Aww, they missed."

A UnitedHealth Group spokesperson said to Newsweek that the woman is no longer employed with the company.

"Violence is never acceptable and any comments that suggest otherwise are in no way consistent with our mission and values," the spokesperson said.

A woman Newsweek identified as being the one who made the post said she had no comment.

The documentary, which is critical of Trump and his use of executive powers, was supposed to air Sunday night. It was preempted for coverage of the shooting at the correspondents' dinner, which Trump, Vice President JD Vance and other senior cabinet members attended.

CNN described the film as a look at "how, over decades, presidential authority has steadily stretched beyond the limits envisioned by the Founders—evolving into a system increasingly vulnerable to abuse and capable of enabling an unscrupulous leader to edge toward autocracy."

Neither CNN nor Zakaria has said when the documentary will premiere.

Hegseth's leadership faces scrutiny following his dismissals of top military officials, including Navy Secretary John Phelan and Army Chief of Staff Randy George, in addition to ongoing friction with Army Secretary Dan Driscoll.

Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., gave Hegseth a "failing grade," warning he displays the "exact lack of experience" that led to former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's firing. Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, criticized George's dismissal.

Several senators also indicated Hegseth would not pass a confirmation process today. Some Republicans suggested they want the president to have him "move on" from the position.

Trump reshuffled his Cabinet following the departures of Attorney General Pam Bondi and former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem as the administration faces plunging poll numbers amid the 2026 election cycle.

Congress banned foreign gold in 1985 to avoid human rights abuses, but the Mint disregarded the mandate for decades. A 2024 Treasury Department inspector general audit confirmed the agency had not verified supplier origins for roughly 20 years.

The Times' investigation found illegal foreign gold was mixed with domestic supply at processors like Dillon Gage and Asahi USA, reclassifying the combined product as American before entering it into the Mint's official supply chain undetected.

On Monday, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a procurement review to ensure compliance and safeguard national security. The Mint now publicly says its the U.S. is the "primary" source of its gold, instead of calling the product "100% American."

The investigation comes as global gold prices near $5,000 per ounce.

Two DHS officials told NBC News that Immigration and Customs Enforcement field offices were given verbal instructions by their superiors to stop entering homes without a judicial warrant. In addition, one DHS official and two immigration attorneys said that ICE agents have "drastically curtailed" the number of arrests they made at immigration court hearings.

These arrests only happen, the official said, if a person is considered a target for deportation.

Both of these tactics used by DHS were criticized by organizations such as the American Civil Liberties Union, which said the warrant policy violated the Fourth Amendment.

However, other policies are still in place, such as making arrests during routine ICE check-ins.

“We are definitely seeing no changes in people being arrested at ICE appointments,” Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, an immigration attorney in Maryland, said to NBC.

Not included in that was an amendment sponsored by Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., directing the Senate Rules Committee to create a bill to add elements of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act to the budget plan. These include requiring voters to show proof of identity and that ballots be counted within 36 hours of Election Day.

Four Republican senators, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, and Susan Collins of Maine, voted against the amendment. All Senate Democrats present in the chamber rejected it as well.

The incident happened on Oct. 28, 2025, outside of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office in Durango.

Demonstrators gathered following the arrest of Fernando Jaramillo-Solano and his two children as he drove them to school.  A senior official with ICE's Denver field office later said the agency misidentified the man.

Video footage of the protest over Jarmillo-Solano's arrest shows Rice taking a phone from protestor Franci Stagi and throwing it across the street. Per the video, he then grabbed Stagi by the hair and pushed her to the ground.

"I'm glad something is being done finally, for not just me, but for all the people," Stagi told CBS Colorado.

A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said in a statement that the charges against Rice are "unlawful' and a "publicity stunt."

Lloyd’s List, which is based in London, published an article on Monday that said 26 Iranian shadow fleet vessels were able to get through the blockade, which affects ships entering or exiting Iranian ports and coastal areas.

Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., sarcastically responded to that report with one word on X: "Awesome."

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell posted a screenshot of Murphy's tweet, saying the report the senator referenced was "false."

"A Dem senator cheering on the number one state sponsor of terror is shameful," Parnell added.

Murphy later clarified his post was not meant to be taken seriously.

"Ok Twitter, I can’t believe I need to clarify this but obviously Trump’s bungled mismanagement of this war is not 'awesome,'" he wrote. "I have said a million times here, it’s a disaster and he should end the war immediately. My tweet was something called 'sarcasm.'"

After using their patrol vehicles to stop a chase, including a "precision immobilization technique," the troopers sent crash reports to a private attorney. That attorney filed personal injury claims against fleeing drivers' insurance companies.

Troopers Hunter Waters, Tyler Byrd and Isaiah Francois participated in the scheme. Byrd said he received two $25,000 settlements. The investigation found the officers reported no physical injuries to the department. The troopers' supervisor Sgt. Joseph Curlee attempted to make a claim through the same lawyer but was not successful.

Curlee stated he did not believe these actions violated department policy because they were acting as private citizens.

The Department of Public Safety investigation concluded the practice created a conflict of interest, as seeking personal compensation for official duties subjects the entire agency to a "damaged reputation, disparaged image, and public distrust."

Despite department policy requiring permission for such claims, Francois told investigators he saw "no ethical violation" for seeking the payments, revealing a disconnect between official standards and the troopers' interpretation. Curlee stated he did not believe these actions violated department policy because they were acting as private citizens.

President Donald Trump said the ship carried a "gift from China" to Iran, but did not further elaborate on what soldiers found.

“We caught a ship yesterday that had some things on it, which wasn’t very nice — a gift from China, perhaps, I don’t know,” Trump said. “I thought I had an understanding with President Xi [Jinping], but that’s alright. That’s the way the war goes right?”

China's foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun rejected the allegations.

"China rejects any false association and speculation," Guo said.

Beijing previously assured the U.S. that no weapons would be shipped to Iran.

Reports from The Washington Post indicate the vessel was loaded with dual-use chemicals, while Trump claimed the Navy stopped the ship by "blowing a hole in the engine room" after crew resistance.

The seizure aims to hinder Iran's missile program as the regime allegedly sought to rebuild military capabilities during a ceasefire, with a historic U.S.-China meeting scheduled for May 14–15.

Kelly cited risks to the water supply, economy and infrastructure in a letter to local officials one day before Fort Meade will make a final decision on the project. The city's planning commission unanimously approved a 20-year development agreement for the project. Kelly called projected water usage "woefully underestimated," and said developer Stonebridge's figures should be considered misrepresented.

Stonebridge reported needing approximately 140,000 gallons of water daily for cooling and about 50,000 gallons for daily operations, but officials believe actual water demand is likely higher.

Because the water demand exceeds city regulations, the project would require permits from the Southwest Florida Water Management District. It requires water-use details and public meeting approval before granting permits. However, the data center's initial application lacked the required information on projected water demand.

Paxton alleges the platform deliberately ignored security risks by accepting gift cards and prepaid debit cards, methods state investigators argue create a 'substantial risk' for impermissible foreign contributions.

Citing "misleading statements and noncompliance with our subpoenas," Congressional Republicans — including Reps. Bryan Steil, Jim Jordan, and James Comer — recently demanded documents regarding ActBlue's internal screening procedures.

ActBlue spokesperson De'Andra Roberts-LaBoo characterized the filing as a "thinly veiled attempt to distract from Ken Paxton's numerous legal and ethical issues," dismissing it as politically motivated. Since 2004, ActBlue has processed more than $16 billion for left-wing candidates and announced it raised $568 million in the first quarter of 2026.

Patel claimed investigators now possess "all the information we need" from restricted computer files deliberately hidden to conceal evidence of a system built over 20 and 30 years.

Working alongside Attorney General Todd Blanche and Department of Justice prosecutors, Patel confirmed the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey is underway, signaling it is just the beginning.

Meanwhile, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is opposing the Department of Justice's attempts to seize Detroit-area 2024 election ballots, accusing the administration of sowing fresh electoral doubt.

Mounting staffing shortages prompted these changes. The DOJ said it lost nearly 1,000 assistant U.S. attorneys, and the National Security Division reported a 40% drop in prosecutors.

FBI Director Kash Patel, aiming to "let good cops be cops," introduced nine-week training for agency transfers and waived assessments for support staff seeking to become agents.

While the FBI defends these moves as "streamlining" rather than lowering standards, critics argue that waiving assessments and accelerating promotions risk eroding expertise in complex investigations.

The Justice Department also recently suspended a policy requiring at least one year of experience for prosecutors, now hiring candidates directly out of law school to fill vacancies.
