Americans increasingly view Canada as a less close ally, with about half of Democrats seeing it as such. That’s down from 7 in 10 two years ago, according to a poll by The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

President Donald Trump has imposed tariffs on Canadian goods, creating tension and leading to feelings of betrayal in Canada, according to a report.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stated that the U.S. is “no longer a reliable partner’ amidst increasing tensions, emphasizing the need for Canada to look out for ourselves.”

Many Americans expressed concerns about the effect of Trump’s tariffs on U.S.-Canada relations, with comments highlighting a decline in goodwill due to trade policies.
