An 18-year-old Florida student, Brendan Depa, received a five-year prison sentence for violently assaulting a school employee after she confiscated his Nintendo Switch. The incident, which took place at Matanzas High School in Flagler County, also led to Depa being sentenced to 15 years of probation. The attack left the victim with lasting anxiety and PTSD. Depa, diagnosed with autism and other conditions, pleaded no contest to aggravated battery. His mother contends that the school district failed to meet his special needs.
