Enrique Tarrio, the ex-head of the Proud Boys group, met with President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Florida on the evening of Saturday May 3. Tarrio served about three years of a 22-year prison sentence for seditious conspiracy linked to the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack before Trump pardoned him.

Tarrio and his mother were invited by a member of Trump’s club and introduced to the president during dinner, leading to a brief conversation. Tarrio described the encounter as a “great conversation” and quoted Trump saying, “I love you guys” and “Oh, you’re that guy.”

Trump’s pardon cut short Tarrio’s sentence amid a broader clemency for nearly 1,600 people charged in connection with Jan. 6.
