The Supreme Court is expected to exhaust its funding by Saturday, due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, according to Patricia McCabe, the court’s public information officer. While federal judges will continue to perform their duties during the shutdown, most court staff will be limited to engaging only in “protected” or essential tasks, as permitted by the Judiciary branch.

The court has enough funds to sustain paid operations through Oct. 17. Court fee balances could be used to cover weekend operations.

Starting Monday, Oct. 20, the Supreme Court building will close to the public, but essential functions such as processing filings, hearing oral arguments, issuing orders and building support will continue.
