Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, released FBI documents that detailed an assassination plot against former President Donald Trump, President Joe Biden and others. Iran allegedly funded the assassination plans.
Asif Merchant, a 46-year-old man, was charged in a murder-for-hire scheme. Merchant allegedly sending $5,000 to an undercover FBI agent for a hitman, according to a complaint unsealed in August 2024. Merchant scouted locations to facilitate communications for the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and believed he could earn $50,000 from the scheme.
