A judge released Kseniia Petrova, a Russian-born scientist, on bail after being charged with smuggling frog embryos into the United States. Petrova has been in federal custody since February and was questioned at Boston Logan International Airport regarding the samples.

In an interview, Petrova stated she did not realize the items needed to be declared and was not trying to sneak them into the country.

Colleagues and academics have testified on Petrova’s behalf, noting her valuable research aimed at advancing cancer cures.
