The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has eliminated the entire staff of the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, according to NBC News. LIHEAP has been a vital resource for millions of low-income households facing high energy costs, Mark Wolfe, executive director of the National Energy Assistance Directors Association, said.

Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., expressed grave concern, stating, “Americans will die because of these senseless and irresponsible actions.”

Andrew Germain, now a former LIHEAP employee, warned that the program may collapse without federal management support.
