A record 882 migrants crossed the English Channel into the UK in 15 boats, setting the highest daily total since October 2022. This brings 2024’s total to 12,313 arrivals, an 18% increase from the 10,472 in 2023 and higher than the 11,659 in 2022 at the same point. June’s crossings total 1,865. The consistent rise in crossings reflects ongoing challenges in managing migration and border control. A total of 29,437 people came to the UK on small boats via the Channel in 2023. That was a drop from the 2022 total of 45,755, which was the highest number since figures began to be collected in 2018.
