The Department of Homeland Security is ending Temporary Protected Status for 11,700 Afghans, allowing their deportation, as stated in a departmental announcement. Many Afghans who aided the U.S. military face dire consequences if returned to Afghanistan, according to Harris Mojadedi.

Critics argue that this removal of protections undermines the U.S. commitment to Afghan allies, as stated by Jennie Murray. A lawsuit filed by CASA over the TPS revocation for Afghans allowed to proceed but did not maintain existing protections during the legal process.
