On Wednesday, June 26, Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives approved a measure that would prohibit money for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from funding the salary of DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. This is one of the latest example of GOP lawmakers targeting the embattled Cabinet head. Previously in 2024, House Republicans voted to impeach Mayorkas.

Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., sponsored the amendment to the DHS appropriations bill for fiscal 2025. The amendment will stop Mayorkas from getting paid with taxpayer money.
