The Houston Police Officers’ Union posted on social media on Nov. 4, soon after Zohran Mamdani was declared the winner of New York City’s mayoral election, seeking to recruit NYPD officers unhappy with the city’s election results. The Facebook post declared in all caps: “NYPD, ARE YOU DISGUSTED WITH THE ELECTION OF ZOHRAN MAMDANI? JOIN US! THE HOUSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT IS HIRING POLICE OFFICERS!”

Mamdani had come under criticism for earlier remarks he made that had offended some New York police officers. He apologized for those remarks in October and indicated he would work together with the city’s police force as the next mayor, according to The Hill.
