The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, warned about nuclear risks from Russian attacks on Ukraine’s power grid during his visit to Kyiv. Ukraine relies on nuclear power for over half of its electricity generation due to ongoing Russian strikes on its energy infrastructure.

Grossi stated that disruptions to power supplies at nuclear plants can interrupt vital cooling processes, increasing the risk of nuclear accidents. He plans to visit Moscow to discuss the situation and has raised concerns about the safety of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is under Russian occupation.
