U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Ming Xi Zhang, the owner of Ya Ya Noodles in Montgomery Township, New Jersey, on March 24, 2025. His arrest followed his conviction for acting as an unregistered agent for China.

In April 2024, a court convicted Zhang and sentenced him to three years of probation for failing to inform the Attorney General of his activities related to the Chinese Ministry of State Security.

Zhang admitted to delivering $35,000 to an unnamed individual in New Jersey after meetings with Chinese officials in the Bahamas in 2016.

The Chinese national currently awaits immigration proceedings at the Elizabeth Detention Center, and his family reports local support for him during this time.
