Todd Lyons, Acting Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), stated that the agency would increase its presence in Boston. He made the call after the city’s mayor, Michelle Wu, said Boston would maintain its Sanctuary City policies.

“We’re definitely going to, as you’ve heard the saying, flood the zone, especially in sanctuary jurisdictions,” Lyons said during a radio interview. The move is part of a broader effort by the Trump administration to pressure designated Sanctuary Cities to cooperate with deportation efforts.

Meanwhile, Wu said the Trump administration should “stop attacking cities to hide their own failures.”

“Boston will never back down from being a beacon of freedom, and a home for everyone,” she added.
