U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is having a hard time vetting new hires as the Trump administration continues its recruitment push for the agency, according to an exclusive report by Reuters.
A “high volume of new hires” and stalled background checks could create uncertainty for field offices when allegations arise, the email warned.
Reuters reported, per an email sent to supervisors in ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations division, that it is laying out a process to deal with past misconduct allegations among recruits.
DHS spokesperson Lauren Bis denied to Reuters that ICE was struggling to process background checks. The email, she said, was meant to inform supervisors of resources available to them.
