Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said Sunday morning that Israel will expand its offensive against Hamas ahead of Israeli plans to occupy Gaza City, despite international condemnation and humanitarian concerns. “The IDF will employ all its capabilities on land, in the air, and at sea in order to strike Hamas with force,” Zamir said in the announcement.
Hamas said that the IDF’s plans amounted to a “new wave of genocide and displacement” against the Palestinian people. Israel has faced persistent accusations of genocide as civilian casualties in Gaza continue to mount, and the United Nations says that Gaza now faces the risk of mass starvation.

Israeli officials, including Zamir, have said that Hamas’ total and unconditional defeat remains a key Israeli goal.
