A federal judge ruled that former President Biden’s sweeping ban on offshore oil drilling was too broad, striking it down as illegal. The judge also ruled that former President Obama overstepped his legal authority in a similarly sweeping ban.
The Trump administration had already moved to lift the drilling ban prior to the ruling.

The order had blocked offshore drilling off much of the U.S. eastern and western coastlines, as well as some protected Alaskan waters. A majority of U.S. offshore oil production comes from the Gulf of Mexico, however, which the Biden and Obama orders did not prohibit.
The ruling is nonetheless being received as a significant win for the oil and gas industries, according to The Hill.
