New polling data revealed just 12% of Americans found Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle ad offensive. The retailer defended the ad, which sparked debates over race and beauty standards, saying the ad “is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”

The poll, conducted by The Economist and YouGov, found that 39% of respondents said the ad was clever, while 40% said it was neither offensive nor clever. Meanwhile, 57% of republicans said the ad was a smart move, with just 22% of Democrats agreeing.
