Kansas joins lawsuit against Trump over federal funding losses

Kansas Governor Laura Kelly is joining a multistate lawsuit against the Trump administration after Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) made cuts to Kansas’ health, agriculture and public safety programs. Kelly said that those cuts were made “on a whim” by the Trump administration and that they made “no sense.”

The governor stated that the cuts will also impact law enforcement, scientific research, education, disaster response, food security and water safety.

The lawsuit itself argues that the executive branch cannot unilaterally terminate funds based on new executive priorities after those funds have already been awarded and appropriated by Congress.

23 U.S. states plus the District of Colombia have joined the federal lawsuit so far.
