Former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean‑Pierre has announced her departure from the Democratic Party, saying that she can no longer align herself with a party she believes subjected Joe Biden to “horrible” treatment. Jean-Pierre expressed feelings of both anger and sadness over Biden’s decision to stop his reelection campaign.

“Biden seemed to be totally at peace with his decision, but I was stunned, my feelings a blur. I was angry and sad. I was enraged and heartbroken that this man had given more than 50 years of his life to serving the American people, and in the end, he’d been treated poorly by members of his own party,” she said. Jean‑Pierre accused Democratic leadership of orchestrating what she described as a “firing squad” against him.

Having registered as an independent, she noted her plans to fight for her beliefs without offering “blind loyalty” to a party she now considers to have betrayed her.
