Former Vice President Kamala Harris is no longer being guarded by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) just days after the agency began its protective service. The move follows President Donald Trump’s revocation of Harris’s Secret Service detail, which former President Joe Biden extended.

Reports indicate internal criticism of protection for Harris by the local department. “Every now and then, common sense prevails, and we are happy to report that the Metro officers assigned to protect the multi-millionaire failed presidential candidate are back on the street fighting crime,” the Los Angeles Police Protective League, the union representing the LAPD officers, said in a statement.

Former vice presidents typically receive protection from the Secret Service for up to six months after their term ends. Meanwhile, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said the LAPD’s “plan was always to provide temporary support” for Harris.
