Zohran Mamdani’s New York City mayoral campaign reportedly accepted nearly $13,000 in potentially improper foreign donations, including a $500 contribution from his mother-in-law in Dubai, which has since been refunded. According to campaign finance records, the campaign has returned $5,608 of these contributions so far, while 88 other donations totaling $7,190 remain unreturned.

“We will, of course, return any donations that are not in compliance with CFB law,” Mamdani’s campaign said in a statement. Meanwhile, Republican mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa said he suspects Mamdani received more illegal donations than reported.

“Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, so I would be very concerned,” Sliwa said.
