Two 15-year-old teenagers from Hyattsville, Maryland, have been sentenced to probation following their conviction in the Sunday, Aug. 3, assault on Edward Coristine, a former staff member at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). One teen received a 12-month probation sentence, while the other was sentenced to 9 months.

Both avoided jail time despite the prosecution’s request for detention. During sentencing, the judge noted the juvenile justice system’s emphasis on rehabilitation over punishment. Coristine suffered significant injuries as a result of the attack, including a concussion and a broken nose.

The incident prompted concern over youth violence and accountability.
