On Monday, Disney announced it would reinstate the late-night talk show “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” after significant public backlash following its cancellation — including backlash from right-wing GOP Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas and other popular right-wing figures. Cruz had called the decision to cancel Kimmel “dangerous as hell” for First Amendment rights and compared it to mafia-style politics.

Now, former Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky has publicly backed Cruz’s condemnation of FCC chief Brendan Carr and the decision to cancel Kimmel’s show.

“As a First Amendment guy, myself, I think [Ted Cruz] probably got it right,” McConnell wrote on X.

While Disney seeks to reinstate the show, Brendan Carr and the right-leaning Sinclair Broadcast Group are keeping the pressure up on ABC and affiliates not to air the show.
