Amid front-line chaos in Gaza, Sam Sears, 44, said “I’m sorry” as he zipped up a body bag for a 9-year-old, days into his Gaza deployment. Sears deployed to Gaza with the charity UK-Med.
Just days into his deployment, Sears experienced a mass casualty incident. He was tasked with moving two deceased children into body bags, as local medics in Gaza faced terrible conditions with drones and gunfire providing a chilling soundtrack.
UK-Med has carried out over 600,000 consultations since January 2024.
Amid the tragedy, one boy, around eight years old, survived surgery and is expected to fully recover, according to Sears.
There have been calls for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, with Sears urging a sustained halt, while Keir Starmer highlights the “terrible suffering” Palestinians have endured.
