Mel Gibson will have his gun rights restored by the Department of Justice, as reported by The New York Times. Attorney General Pam Bondi approved Gibson’s reinstatement among ten individuals, following his 2011 domestic violence misdemeanor conviction.

Elizabeth G. Oyer, a former pardon attorney, was fired for refusing to recommend Gibson’s gun rights restoration. Oyer stated that giving guns back to domestic abusers poses serious risks, highlighting the need for caution in such decisions. Federal laws prevent most people convicted of domestic abuse from owning a gun.
