House Democrats pressured U.S. Capitol Police to provide financial assistance and promotion to Lt. Michael Byrd, who fatally shot Ashli Babbitt during the Jan. 6 riot. Byrd received over $200,000 in taxpayer and charitable funds, despite a disciplinary record. The police department went to great lengths to promote Byrd to captain, despite initial efforts being unsuccessful. He was eventually promoted two years later.
