The UK’s asylum backlog will take longer to clear than expected, with migrants staying in hotels for up to 3 years. Despite Labour’s pledge to end the practice, nearly 30,000 migrants remain in hotels, costing £4.2 million per day. The Home Office aims to clear 87,217 claims within 12-18 months, but 137,525 cases are still pending appeals or removal.
