Montana voters will decide in November on a measure to protect abortion rights in the state’s constitution, marking Montana as the eighth state to include this issue on the ballot. The measure aims to enshrine a 1999 Montana Supreme Court ruling regarding a woman’s right to a pre-viability abortion.
Montanans Securing Reproductive Rights confirmed that enough verified signatures were gathered to qualify the constitutional initiative for the ballot. Republican lawmakers in 2023 passed a law saying abortion is not protected by the right to privacy. That law has let to be challenged in court.
