The mother of Robin Westman, the shooter who killed two children and injured 18 others at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis, is refusing to cooperate with investigators. Minneapolis Police Assistant Chief Christopher Gaiters told reporters the department, with the help of other agencies, had been able to speak with Mary Grace Westman.
“Through working with our partners, with the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension of Minnesota, there has been conversation, and I am not at liberty to go any further than that,” Gaiters said. Initial attempts to contact Westman had been unsuccessful.
Police were able to interview other family members and friends, including the shooter’s father. Meanwhile, Mary Westman has hired criminal defense attorney Ryan Garry.
Garry described the mother’s state as “completely distraught.” Police have not stated whether Westman, or any other family member, will face charges as a result of the fatal shooting.
