Former President Joe Biden’s press secretary, Jen Psaki, debuted her show “The Briefing with Jen Psaki” on MSNBC’s 9 p.m. slot in May 2025, airing from New York. Psaki took over from Rachel Maddow and Alex Wagner amid a significant programming overhaul.

“The Briefing” averaged 971,000 viewers but lost 47% of Maddow and Wagner’s 9 p.m. audience, with a 52% demo drop to 78,000 viewers aged 25-54.

MSNBC saw a 24% May primetime viewership decline overall and dipped behind CNN in the key demographic, marking its second-worst month historically for daytime demo ratings.

These ratings declines suggest the revamped lineup, including Psaki’s expanded role, has struggled to retain audiences, raising concerns ahead of Comcast’s planned cable spin-off.
