The Trump administration withdrew federalized National Guard troops from Los Angeles, Chicago and Portland, The Washington Post reported this week. Thousands of troops were sent to Democratic-run areas, and their deployment drew legal challenges and backlash from local officials.
President Donald Trump first announced the troops’ removal in a Truth Social post from December.
Hundeds of National Guard members are still deployed in Memphis, Tennessee, and New Orleans, Louisiana — two places where President Donald Trump received support from Republican governors.
There are still 2,500 nonfederal National Guard members in Washington, D.C. as well.
