“Israel grieves with the Jewish community in the UK after the barbaric terror attack in Manchester,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wrote on X after an attack outside of a U.K. synagogue. “As I warned at the UN,” Netanyahu’s statement continued, “weakness in the face of terrorism only brings more terrorism. Only strength and unity can defeat it.”
The reference to his comments at the United Nations General Assembly debate in New York City, where he condemned the United Kingdom and major European states for formally recognizing Palestine, was viewed by some observers as an attempt to pin the blame for the Manchester attack on the U.K. itself.
